Pro 1600 Race in Primm, Nevada.

I (Andrea) had the chance to be a co-driver for the 2007 Pro1600 Race out in Primm, Nevada on December 29th. Through Best In The Desert, I got to know Ken Tapert and Gary Stairs, who are the regular drivers for the car. Anyways, for this race, the less weight in the car, the better, and who better for a co-driver than an 85 lb girl?!

So the race was an 8 mile lap, 6 times around each heat – and there were 3 heats. I only drove the first two heats, and let me say, my body is thanking me today for not doing the 3rd one too! The first heat started at 8 am, bright and early, so we had to be out at the car around 6:30 am! Yikes! And I am NOT a morning person! But of course, I was so excited, so that helped the idea of being up at 5!

The first heat I rode with Ken Tapert, and the second I was supposed to race with Gary Stairs, but since he wasn’t feeling very well, I ended up riding with Mikey Childress.

So we got to the trailer, pull the car out, and what did they do for me? They put my name on the car! AHH! How cool is that?!

So there were only 33 total entries for this race, since it was all 1-2 1600’s. It was a points race for most,

but the team I rode with was just out there to have fun. These pictures are of the main pit.

All suited up, getting in the car, ready to race! I needed help getting the seatbelt on!

5 point harnesses are a lot harder to buckle than they look!

Putting on the most important part – the helmet!

And we’re off to race!

They started us 2 x 2, all 30 seconds apart. We were about the 8th group off the start line the first heat.

After the first heat, I was already feeling the pain. It was such a surreal experience being on the other side of the race, but it was so fun!

Gearing up for the second heat with Mikey.

These are just a few of the MANY pictures Michael took of us racing!

Inside the main pit was a python with jumps and such, so he got some really good pictures.

Thumbs up! We’re doing great!

Checkered flag! And we’re done.

After we got home we accessed the body damage. Besides my neck killing me, I also had a few bruises…

These are some of the pictures our friend Norris took of the race.
