Engine Rebuild

After 272,000 miles it was time for the old girl to get a heart transplant! Don’t get me wrong, the engine was still running, but the bottom end power of the engine had seen better days. I pulled then engine and took it down to NVT (Nevada Valve Train). They are a local machine shop that specializes in rebuilding engines. They took my original long block and bored it .030 over, decked it, and rebuilt the heads. They put the engine together with new pistons, rings, timing chain/gear set, new bearings, and all new seals were needed. They also sprayed the engine Chevrolet Orange per my request. While they had it at the shop I spent my evenings rebuilding everything else under the hood, including the Throttle body, vacuum system, and distributor. I also replaced all of the cracked and missing wire loom with new stuff and cleaned the HECK out of the engine bay. When I got the long block back I put it the rest of the way together with all new gaskets and seals. Take a look at the following pictures and you can see what I did and how it turned out!

This is what the engine compartment looked like when I started. Pretty dirty under there!

In this picture I’ve just about got it ready to pull from the truck. Its amazing all the grime and crap that builds up on an engine in 13 years!

The front of the engine after it came out and I had pulled the top end apart…

This is what the engine looked like on the inside, you can see from the pictures that over the years junk had really started to build up on the inside of this thing!

Is it supposed to look like that?
